Do i have to prime the engine after running out of gas cause it won't start

may have picked up crap in bottom of the tank,clogging strainer or fuel filter.have the fuel pressure tested. you could try turning the key to ON 3 or 4 times before cranking.pump over heats,works harder when not covered in fuel at all times.when gas hand gets on 1/4 tank,think of that as empty,and put more gas in it.
