What is your question?
when accelerating from a stop, the volt needle drops from about 14v+ down to 12v in first, third and fifth. it returns to 14v+ on second and fourth shifts. it gradually returns to 14v+ in fifth when cruising. if I punch it to go around slower traffic, voltage drops to 12v. but with headlights on, voltage stays constant. one dealer and three shops have worked on the truck, but can't find a problem. any ideas?

Has anyone suggested replacing the alternator and checked the drive belt/system and body ground circuits? Same place that did the valve cover gasket?
I see this happen on my 1996 Rodeo-when you step on gas pedal the fuel injection system for the engine demands increased electrical power. This pulls voltage level down. I would not worry about this-it's normal operation. My Rodeo has 388,000 miles on it.
No need to do more research-I fully understand the issue! When you press the gas pedal the vehicle fuel delivery system electrical load increases thus pulling the voltage level DOWN (we are dealing with a 12 volt system!)This also happens when other large loads such as turning on the AC happen. My Rodeo has been doing this (voltage flucuation) from day one when I bought the vehicle. If you doubt what I say-attach a volt meter leads to the battery terminals and with vehicle running pull a load on the system (accelerate the engine/turn on the Ac,etc)....read the meter during the events-you'll see voltage drop when load is increased-vey simple. There is nothing wrong with your Rodeo!
I have been doing this for 40+ years, no lesson needed! What ever floats ya boat is just fine with me! As engine rpm increases, so does alternator output no mater what the load is. No need to reply as this question has been deleted from my mail, have a good night.
it started to happen when the original alternator burned up. replaced it with 2 premium rebuilt alternators from NAPA and finally replaced them with a brand new, never used or rebuilt alternator. the needle still fluctuates. the alternators were replaced in 2008. one shop disconnected all possible grounds, checked them and re-installed each one, checking it as they went. found no problems or fixes. the dealer looked at it, scratched their chin and basically said they'd never seen it before and didn't know where to go, and they're gone. first happened two years before valve cover change.
