Car turned off while in reverse. gear shifter stuck in reverse car won't start

I can't finger any way the actual shift lever (stick) can possibly get stuck in 'reverse' .. However I can understand it getting stuck in 'park' .. Perhaps the dash gear indicator says the transmission is in reverse but the stick is actually in park? .. You shouldn't even have to push the button in to shift 'from' reverse! .. This vehicle is the same as Chevy Trailblazer and I've had quite a few of those in the shop for shifter and shifter cable repair, can you check this out more closely and post the results? .. IF it is as I suspect, I may be able to help... IF the shifter (stick) is indeed stuck in 'reverse' and will not move at all .. You need a tow truck.
