I lost the keys to my 1996 Infiniti J30, and am being asked for the key code in order to make a replacement key for it. I looked in the owners manual and there is no key code written in there, all it says is that the code is written on a "key plate" that would have been given with the original set of keys, & to keep said plate in a safe place. Seeing as it had been almost 20 years and I'm not the original owner, I do not have access to this supposed "key plate". Is there another way to find this key code for my car?

you could try local locksmith first with vin#, maybe.if that don't work call the dealer with vin#.where is your spare key?
Well I don't have a spare key or I wouldn't be worrying about this code.. It is my stepdads car he gave it to me to use while I got on my feet and only gave me the one key & I lost my whole key ring shortly after. I was unaware that he didn't have a spare at his house, I haven't been great about hanging onto keys so usually leave my spare with one of my parents so someone always has an extra copy for me. Wasn't until after I lost my key ring that I found out he didn't have a spare or I would have had a copy made in the first place.
good luck with it.
