The socket is reachable inside the trunk, but there must be a trick to releasing it

How to Replace the High Stoplight on a 2007 Hyundai Sonata www.ehow.com › Cars › Auto Repair › General Auto Repair copy and paste link, sounds easy, but probably not.
The ehow instructions will remove the bulb, but not replace it as there is no access. After removing the two screws, the housing can be pulled forward, opening up a gap of 3/8 inch, enough to hit the lamp socket with a flat screw driver, rotating it and allowing the socket to drop down. Let me summarize my story: I'd reviewed all the Internet ideas - I was NOT going to remove the package shelve for this stupid light bulb. My 2007 Sonata model had the rear seats that 'go forward' avoiding my need to climb into the trunk (too old and fat for that). I had read on the Internet someone had 'drilled a hole' in the 2 x 2 metal area next to the plug access and under the bulb. This was the only way I could see seating the bulb socket, so I bought a 1 3/4 inch "Hole Dozer" at HomeDepot for $14 (assuming you have a 1/4 inch drill for the pilot). I'd recommend a 2 inch hole, as I had to move the cover forward, squeeze the metal panels together with a channel lock to provide room to slip the lamp assembly into the housing. Once you have the lamp assembly seated, temporally plug it in to check.
yep,i read where it said it was a pita to do this.very bad design.good luck.
