What is your question?
The check engine light came on when I first started the car today. Is it safe to drive (at least far enough to get to my dealership?)

That is a difficult question to answer as there is no way of knowing why the light is on until the computer is scanned to see what trouble codes are stored. As long as you do not experience any obvious drivability concerns or any change in how the vehicle performs, then yes, it should be OK. If you notice the CEL blinking/flashing, pull over and have it towed. I hope this helps!
Local independent auto repair facility should be very capable of taking care of this issue for you. Maybe there’s no need to drive the 40 miles to your dealership. I’d at least have them perform *hands-on* evaluation.
