i am getting very poor mileage for a 5 cylinder vehicle (16 mph).
What makes this problem better or worse?
you tell me- only had it for a year- always been that way.
How long has your 2008 Hummer H3 had this problem?
one year - length of ownership.

Check your spark plug have you change them, also the oxygen sensor and the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid / Actuator those can have an effect on gas i do know when i changed my Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid / Actuator my hummer h3 had more horsepower. the one i got was the https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8353652&cc=1445526&jsn=411

Unfortunately that is about as good as it’s gonna get.. https://www.motortrend.com/cars/hummer/h3/2008/ That’s just the norm for any SUV - any ‘real’ SUV that is .... Some of those mini wannabe’s will fetch a little more mpg. Now I’ve had people swear they’re getting 20 something mpg - I just consider that to be mistake in mathematics - rather than a lie.
