Possibly a failing ignition/starter switch or a failing starter. You could check these out with a meter or test light. Check that you have battery voltage at the big starter cable, and battery voltage at the smaller START wire at the starter when your assistant turns the key to START. If so, and the starter doesn't run, then it's faulty.
no it's not the coils.you have 5 of them, one cop for each cylinder over each spark plug.you have a NO crank NO start condition.you said all of that checked out?does that mean you have power at the starter?if you have power at the starter while trying to crank it,then the starter is most likely bad.did you try and tap on the starter while someone is trying to crank it?lights, radio working?
ok.then suspect ignition switch is bad,not sending power/signal to the starter to crank it.if you use a screwdriver and touch the wire that's hot on the starter to the small wire connection and the starter spins over, then the ignition switch is bad, electrical part NOT key cylinder.IT WILL SPARK A LITTLE WHEN YOU DO THIS,KEY OFF SO IT DON'T START UP,JUST SPIN OVER.
this is the Autozone part number.does not matter where you buy it,although it's called an Ignition Switch, not Key Cylinder Switch!it's the electrical part of the
switch.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ignition Switch, Part Number: LS1454
Warranty: Limited Lifetime
Price: $99.99
change it first.i guess i assumed it had been changed or swap it with one just like it in the fuse/relay box.and i tell people to NEVER assume, and here i go,assuming!
never did one of those.i hope you unhooked the battery before starting on it.don't need to be banging around AIRBAG area.the H1 is different,it's mounted on the side of the steering column, easy.
i hate that!when you don't get power/battery voltage from the switch to the starter signal/smaller wire and have battery voltage at the large red wire, then replacing the switch should have been the fix.i think you replaced the relay, and all fuses are good?the only other thing i can think of is the GM PASSLOCK ll,but the ignition switch should have fixed that.i only see a couple people with a starting problems, but theirs was a 10 minute shutdown of the PASS LOCK SYSTEM and would start after that.they replaced the same thing you replaced and it fixed the NO CRANK,NO START CONDITION.i don't know, that will beat me up tonight!!go back and check your work, not saying anything bad,but double check everything, fuses, relay is working, switch, cables.and you have nothing,no lights come on inside, headlights, radio, nothing works, correct?
All other electrical stuff works. Lights, radio, etc. Went back and checked all previous connections. All my friends are stumped too. Tried both keys to reset the pass key. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks
have you tried this RELEARN for the passlock theft system.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
30-Minute Learn Procedure
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
Observe the SECURITY telltale. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF.
Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
Important: The vehicle learns the Passlockâ„¢ Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
Yes, those were the instructions I have.
I had to go back to work (oil fields in west Texas)
My son was to frustrated with the car, so it's in the shop now.
i'm frustrated too!post what they find.lots of folks had a problem with the H3 not starting, and most only had to wait 10 minutes and it would finally crank and start.then after replacing the ignition switch, that fixed it!
Finally got the car running. Bad switch from Auto Zone. Got the car back yesterday( $135 cost) . Now the driver window (power) won't go up. Gotta love used cars.
glad to hear about the switch.Autozone is a big outfit.they have close to 6000 stores and around 60,000 employees.they buy their parts from the vendor who is the cheapest!staff is over worked and under paid.very little training.but anyway glad you got it running.hope you get the other problem fixed soon.
No sound when key is turned. 12 volts on battery. Checked fuses. Thanks for replying.
12 volts ain't gonna cut the mustard!need 12.6 volts.12.39 volts or less is a DISCHARGED BATTERY.
Charged battery last night. 12.6 volts. No change. Any other ideas?

All that turned out well. What about the coil pack?

I don't have power to the starter wire when my assistant turns the key. I do have power to the main starter cable.

Starter did spin. Do you know what the name of the electrical part is? My parts guy doesnt seem to have a clue.

Thank you! Would you recommend replacing the relay too?
change it first.i guess i assumed it had been changed or swap it with one just like it in the fuse/relay box.and i tell people to NEVER assume, and here i go,assuming!
Lol. I won't tell.
good!you no tell THAT,and i no tell what happened in Stadium on Thanksgiving day?i'm real close to Charlotte,NC,20 miles!!
I used to live in Greensboro. I'm no Cowboy fan. I'll let you know how this thing works out when I get to the parts store in am.
10-4.post results.i'm in Gastonia.
Holy cow! This starter switch has a shear screw in it. The thing won't shear off. Banging on it for hours now, almost all the way through. Nasty job.
never did one of those.i hope you unhooked the battery before starting on it.don't need to be banging around AIRBAG area.the H1 is different,it's mounted on the side of the steering column, easy.
Got the ignition switch in. Still not working. I tried resetting the pass key. Still not working. ???
