quit working during heavy snow storm, wiper blade moves easily by hand, passengerside still works as normal

Sounds like the drivers side linkage popped loose from the wiper transmission,held on by a plastic push on type nut/bushing, maybe.
When parking vehicle - be sure to turn wipers OFF before turning key off - especially in winter weather!
