My pilot makes a knocking sound when idling. Could this be sticking lifters ?

NO , it doesn't have lifters. It could be a bad timing belt tensioner (serious) , accessory drive belt tensioner (less serious) or even a bad crank pulley. More description of conditions may help narrow the guesses down. Does it make the noise worse when cold start-up or after it's been running a while? With A/C on or off or doesn't make a difference? IF you very gradually increase RPMs , at what engine speed does the 'knock' go away , or does it just become less noticeable , but still there? Does corn make good gas?
I have an 06 Pilot with 160k that is having the same problem. Ours has had a tick for years, however it recently developed a loud knock. It sounds like the old time cars at six flags. I'm wondering what is the significance of it getting quieter after warming up as that is what ours does. I'll be having the timing belt replaced in the next couple days and wonder if there is anything (besides water pump) that I should address while there. Thanks!
