What is your question?
I just got a 2004 Oddysey, and when the temperature control knob is turned toward the middle (between hot and cold), I hear brisk rattling that sounds like the actuator or servo that controls the amount of hot and cold air can't decide what position it wants to be in, so it just keeps moving back and forth in tiny incrememts causing a rattling sound. This is all speculative, but that's what it appears. The sound stops if I turn it to either extreme, and it seems to happen more if the fan is turned off, the temp dial still being toward the middle. What would cause this?

It would be nice if you could read the data with a scan tool to verify speculation and find the proper fix for the issue. You are more them likely correct, but it should be verified.
I wish I had the answer. Mine has been doing the same thing and now it is affecting the temperature coming out.
Does a scan tool pick up on things that do not cause the check engine light to turn on? I wouldn't think this kind of thing would generate a code necessarily. Maybe you're talking about a different scan tool?
There are scan tools and there are code readers. A code reader is not a scan tool, it reads the generic codes generated for the emission issues set by the global standard. There are many different scan tools that start with data information, the you go up from there. You can get some good ones that can do many things with bi-directional controls, where you can command, for instance the actuators to move one direction or the other, and read if they are doing it or not. That's just a brief explanation of what I'm referring to. I have many different ones that started , years ago, around $500.00 to ones that are $5,000.00, and they go even higher than that. Several shops have upgraded to a Snap On scanner that is $10,000.00, just to be able to diagnose, and repair car problems. We have a big investment on today's technology and we also get on this website to try and help others with their problems. It's not just changing parts, as some people want to do as do it yourselfers. Some mechanics work that way when they don't have the knowledge, nor the equipment to diagnose these things properly. That's why there is this forum, to help people understand, It's Not just a guessing operation. Just trying to give you some direction, to help you resolve your under dash middle temp noise you are having, with the proper information, Thanks for listening.
