Wondering if I should trust dealership about VSA, ABS, Emission system....

What is your question?

Car has around 60k on it. Bought it last month. Dealer claimed everything had been tuned up. The other day the oil light came on, checked the oil and there was ZERO in it. Added oil, could not find an oil leak. Flashforward to this past weekend and my car began to die up a hill. Started just limping along, unresponsive to engine revving. VSA, ABS, and Emission system light came on. Check Engine light was on the other day, with oil light, but then went off. Had towed to dealer. Dealer says a spark plug was broken off, wants to replace that with a Full Tune-up. $375.00. We can't afford that right now.... Wondering what's going on?? I mean, the dealer just sold us the car. Why would it already need another tune up? AND I'm very capable of doing the Tune-up myself. Should I just do it myself and then take it back to the dealer? Thanks for any insight.

With only 60K , those plugs should never have been touched yet. Ask to see the broken plug , if still there. Plugs aren't due on that , as normal maint. until 105K miles.Post VIN# and I can check warranty repair history , and what service bulletins may apply to yours , as far as oil consumption. Curious- did they sell you a warranty or is it a Honda 'certified' car? (I'm presuming that when you say dealer , you mean Honda dealer sold you the car)

I only have a limited warranty. Yea, it was a Honda 'certified' and yes a honda dealer. The dealer its at now for the repairs said one spark plug is completely broken. VIN# JHMZE2H70CS001064 Thank you!

The spark plug didn't break on it's own. The VIN status is still showing the original owner , so either they are taking a while to update their database , or you need to check your paperwork and be SURE it is HONDA certified. DON'T authorize anymore work until you get that straightened out! 1 service bulletin for 'product update' (IMA software) , might be covered under 8/80 emissions warranty or the IMA warranty which I believe is the same (federal-I think Ca. is different).-SB #14-064. Ask them How they think the spark plug broke and tell me here.

The limited warranty I got from Tameron Honda in AL says it warrantees pretty much everything grease-able but that's it. I'm pretty sure it is Honda Certified, I'll try to find paperwork. Thinking about it, I'm not really sure I ever saw or signed anything with certified on it. I do remember being told that though. I talked to the dealer here in Nashville again tonight. The service guy said they couldn't tell me how the spark plug broke. They said they ran the test and nothing came up. Found the broken spark plug and couldn't go forward until they did a tune-up($375 for replacing only the spark plug, said everything else was as good as it should be). They didn't check any of the other issues. I'm just gonna save a little and do the spark plug myself. What are the 8/80 and IMA warranties?

PLEASE , for your own sake , find the paperwork! For a Honda 'Certified' vehicle , you should have two sheets of paper , with the 'check-out' list on it , and on the top it will clearly say Honda Certified. Make sure they give you a well DETAILED receipt , of what they found , AND do not do the spark plug(s) without taking pictures or video (including a shot of the VIN# at the door pillar or windshield) and KEEP ALL the old plugs!.PLEASE let me know ASAP , about your paperwork! I can check with my 'warranty clerk' (she's the best!) when I'm back at work tomorrow. Weird schedule- my days off are Tues./Weds. , so Thursday-Monday , I usually am on this in the evenings. Good luck.

My Honda Insight has been doing the exact same thing. My 2012 Insight has about 50,000 miles on it Engine light, emission light, then oil light went on few months ago. I took it to dealership and the car was almost out of oil. They filled it up with oil and told me to bring it back in at 1,000 miles. I have been bringing it back every 1000 miles and it is always 1-2 quarts low on oil. Initially they tried to tell me that it is normal to lose a quart of oil every thousand miles. A few weeks ago, I drove my car and the emission, VSA, ABS all went off at once and then my car stalled. Towed it to same dealer who told me that oil had gotten into the spark plugs which caused it to stall. Honda now agrees that rings (does that mean gasket)on engine need to be replaced. Honda has agreed to replace under the warranty, although it sounds like that they need to obtain the parts first which could take a couple of months. This is apparently a bigger issue than just my car regarding 2012 Insight vehicles. I heard that Honda might issue a "bulletin" on this issue.

You're lucky it was under your warranty. In very fine print, at the very bottom of the page, my warranty says something like excludes piston rings and anything caused by piston ring failure. Found a used engine with 30k on it and paid the dealer $3700 for it... Honda has already recalled other Vtech engines with this EXACT same problem. Mostly crosstours and accords I think. I wish you luck with it. We are now looking to sell ours. After owning it for two months and having to buy a $3700 engine, we can't even stand to drive it anymore.
