What is your question?
So I have a brand new Honda Fit. I was putting in weather tech floor liners and accidentally covered the gas pedal. When I started the car it revved up rather high for about 4 seconds before I shut it off. I think it is probably fine but wanted to check with someone so I am asking you guys. Thanks.
How long has your 2017 Honda Fit had this problem?
It just happened

That probably didn’t hurt anything - However you should seriously consider what would have happened if the transmission had been in gear! I highly recommend removing those aftermarket floor mats and putting original equipment mat back in place .. Remember the Toyota fiasco of unintended acceleration? .... INCORRECT FLOOR MATS !!
Spend the money to acquire the Honda All Season mats that are made for the car and you will have no issue.
Toyota fixed this problem by cutting about 3/4 inch off bottom of accelerator pedal - installing an upgrade flor mat with a larger relief cutout for the gas pedal .. Problem mysteriously disappeared after that.. I know this is fact as I own two of the vehicles that were recalled - I never had it done - i simply replaced the floor mats with ‘Toyota’ upgrades.
IF you have the correct application floor mats - make SURE they are securely fastened to the factory anchoring fixtures and lay on floorboard as intended. Over the years - I have seen the results of improperly installed or incorrect floor mat applications on drivers floorboard .. This can be a very serious safety hazard as the mat can shift while vehicle is in operation and apply unexpected pressure to accelerator pedal. Just be careful !
