Is anyone aware of a connection during repair / replacement of inflator on airbag recall to the car air conditioning?

I have the same issue and own TWO 2010 CR-Vs and on both a/c crapped out within a month of airbag recall replacement. I can't believe they're unrelated!
Should be no connection at all , but if , like at the dealership I'm at , cars have been sitting since April in some cases and maybe just makes what may have been a slow leak look more sudden(It worked when i used it last - (now 3 months not one day) later .it does not work. Just test drove a customers CR-V for the first time since literally sat since April 1st , the first thing I noticed was the warm A/C! Airbag inflator replacement hasn't even been done yet! This is going to be a nightmare , our dealership has close to 300 cars/trucks out there waiting.........OMG.......
Always a possibility as my car sat idle as well. Again, too much of a coincidence to ignore. Wonder what Honda corporate says? Thanks for responding.
Just received my 2008 CRV back from recall after almost 5 month. While the dealership had my car they also performed 75,000 mile check-up. The car was returned to me with a perfect check up. The first hot day I turn on my air conditioner which never had a problem before, but now will not blow cold air. I feel like it's too much of a coincidence too. The dealership gave me a rental. Crossing fingers this isn't another long-term issue.
My battery also died and had to get a new one. A mechanic mentioned that if the car sits too long and then u start it up that could cause a problem with the A/C. Something about the dirty fluids that sink to the bottom of the compressor. I needed a new relay and freon. I am not a mechanic. Then the battery died. Same thing re the car sitting for a long period could also drain the battery. So I called American Honda and opened a case and they are reviewing to possibly reimburse me. I have heard from others re our coincidence issues.
No, this is not an air bag inflator/air compressor connection. They are two different issues. I had problems with my 2009 CRV EX for YEARS before the airbag inflator was replaced. The problems related to a failing air compressor/relay/clutch are: relay is bad/sticking, clutch is bad, air compressor is bad. This causes any and or all of the following: the battery to go dead (repeatedly, even after charging or replacing with a new battery). Engine overheating resulting in a/c coolant leak or steam-like white particulate cloud escaping from under passenger side hood. A/C blowing warm or hot air. A/C blowing cold for a while, then cutting out to hot air. Loud thumping/banging under the hood as though a part is loose or hitting the hood. Loud screeching under the hood on the passenger side. I had all of these problems and the Honda service dept. could never find anything wrong. I finally researched the symptoms online and air compressor relay problems immediately came up. I asked about the relay at my next service visit in 2014 (around 80,000 miles) and they agreed to replace it even though "it wasn't sticking" when they tested it. That solved my problems with the dead battery, but the following summer the a/c blew hot air. I had to replace the relay again in 2016.This was an ongoing problem between 2013-2016 until finally, in June 2016 after my car was out of warranty with 123,000 miles, the service dept. said I needed a new air compressor i.e $1,200+. I called the American Honda Corporation and told them I had been having air compressor related problems for years. After a lot of back and forth with Honda and the dealership and review of my impeccable maintenance history, they agreed to replace the air compressor and clutch for free as a "courtesy for my history as a loyal customer". And they did on June 14, 2016. My airbag inflator was switched out on July 5, 2016. The problems everyone is reporting above are air compressor problems. And Honda knows about the defect and is quietly extending the warranty to 100,000 on the clutch and handling failures on a one on one basis. Talk to your dealership service manager and call American Honda.
All this appears as a "coincidence" and I have heard other stories how the air bag recall does ultimately effect the A/C and battery due to reasons, including the points that you mentioned. Thanks for sharing.
It has only been a week since I had the airbag recall fixed and all of the sudden my cold air turned to what feels like heat. I have a 2010 Honda CRV. Dealership is telling me it will cost about $800 to repair.
Same here HONDA Dealer told me not to drive car, sat for almost 2mons and finally get a call to bring in; battery was drained, brakes froze up, thumping sound all the way to Dealers... They told me to drive for 100miles and it should go away, so I did still the same thumping sound they said to router the front and back rotors for $400. I could only afford front, told to drive another 100miles. I drove 600miles and still same issue had to pay the $200 and this and still had the same issue of the AC not working they changed relay on the same day as the front tires brakes were shaved down (100miles). This past wkend they tell me that its the AC Copressor and it will cast $800+ to have it fixed. The extended warranty Honda issued exp. back in Nov2014 (100,000 miles or 7yr) which ever comes first. Will living in Boston we only use AC as needed unlike Arizona Cali, and Southern States. So am waiting to see if Honda will honor a partial Goodwill service.
Honda told me same thing about extended warranty expiration. Said they sent me a service bulletin in 2014 about AC compressor issue but I did not receive one. Asked me why I don't have service records at Honda and I told them because I have been told by several mechanics that all the things they do are unnecessary so I get my car serviced by a mechanic I trust. Honda said if I got my car serviced at dealer then they would have known to fix the issue. So now I am out of luck. In same call, discussed delay in passenger side air bag replacement and fact that Honda's solution was to tell owners to not have anyone sit in passenger seat to "help Honda out in this nationwide recall." Its all about profit - Honda puts the burden on the consumer to save money.
This just happened to me too. 2007 Honda CRV, 96k miles, airbag replaced (driver's side - passenger side not replaced because of major delay but Honda just says don't put anyone in passenger side until late fall when air bag comes in) three days ago and compressor crapped out. Mechanic says they can't find any reason for it. Honda has lost my allegiance.
Call Honda directly 888-234-2138 and state your case. Have your receipts ready and they might ask to send and open a case for review regarding reimbursement or credit. There appears to be no mechanical reason; however, the car sitting for a period of time can create an issue.
I just had to have my AC compressor clutch replaced. I have less than 100,000 miles on my 2010 CRV, but Honda would not pay for it, even though they have extended the warranty for this for some CRV's. I've called American Honda several times to see what the criteria is for being qualified for the extended warranty. I can't get anyone to return my call. What great customer service! I have taken my car to the dealer for service for some things, but I do not do everything they recommend. I have another mechanic I trust that lets me know when something needs to be replaced or serviced. I did take it there for the compressor clutch replacement. This has put a bad taste in my mouth for Honda's. I owned an Accord before purchasing the CRV new. This will be my last Honda purchase!
Ask your dealer for the direct Honda number again and request to open a case for review. It might take a week or two for a response, but I think ultimately they will respond. They won't reimburse, but might provide credit to future honda service, etc. Make sure you have the receipts on anything you spent and write up the detail of what happened. If that doesn't work get the name of the Regional direct Honda manager for your area and call him/her with all the same detail. Squeaky wheel could work.
This CAN NOT be a coincidence. I got my CRV's recalled air bags replaced a couple of weeks ago. Turned the air conditioner ON after 5 days (Didn't need it during these 5 days as the weather was cool), and its only blowing hot air. It was working perfectly fine before air bag replacement. I wonder if its gets messed up while changing the air bags or did they mess it up on purpose (because I did not fall for all the fancy things they offered, and of course the recall air bags replacement was free)
The problems everyone is reporting here depend more on the vehicle mileage when the problems start than the fact that the airbag inflator was replaced. Air compressor related problems can start at any time but are common between 50,000-80,000 miles. American Honda agreed to a NHTSA extension of the factory warranty on the A/C clutch to 100,000 because most of the complaints they received occur by 101,000 miles. There was a class action suit that covered vehicle model years from around 2002-2007. Honda is handling ongoing complaints with other CRV model years on a case by case basis. I know the owner of a 2010 CRV with only 50,000 miles (really!). All of a sudden she started hearing the alarmingly loud thumping under the hood. She called the dealership service dept. and the tech immediately said it might be the air compressor. Google CRV air compressor problems and you will see how big the problem is. I can't say that replacing the airbag inflator will never cause problems, but I know for a fact your problems are more likely air compressor problems. Your dealership will not volunteer this information, you have to bring it up yourself. My CRV always came back with a clean bill of health even after I took it in for these specific problems. If your airbag inflator was replaced at 20,000 miles and you started having problems, maybe it was the inflator. At 50,000 miles or more expect it to be a failing air compressor system. Do your research and make sure your auto repair facility documents your complaint in writing on the service record for your car. You need to establish a documented history of related problems to get Honda to take care of your compressor problem in the future.
I am having the exact problem with my Toyota Sienna. I didn't leave car idle so that isn't the problem and air worked fine until the recall was performed. Seems too coincidental.
Here's another coincidence. Now my car won't start, appears to be the battery. The connection was loose, so perhaps that was it, but now the battery appears drained. I know the battery is disconnected when the air bag is repaired, no one wants power running for that repair. So... any issues on the battery or car not starting? Thanks.
Just replaced airbsg wed. This week no air.
