Are the front passenger and hatch door lock actuators somehow connected?

The front passenger and hatch door locks will not properly operate. They will intermittently lock and unlock with the key fob and/or the button from the drivers side. When they malfunction, I must unlock the passenger door lock then i can unlock the hatch with the key fob. If I am trying to lock the car, I must manually lock the passenger door lock first then I can lock the hatch either with the key fob or with the drivers side lock all button. This seems like the two locks are somehow connected. Does anyone have any insight into this situation. Thanks to any and all who can help!!
