What is your question?
I close and lock the doors, put on my seat belt, turn the ignition, but nothing happens. Then, I undo everything- take off the seatbelt, unlock and open the door, close and lock it again, put the seatbelt back on, start the ignition again- and then the engine starts. I go through this ritual maybe one out of every two times I drive the car. I don't know why it happens and why it only happens some of the time.
What makes this problem better or worse?
It does not happen as much if I start the engine right away. It is more likely to happen if I am waiting for a family member to get settled in the car.
How long has your 2002 Honda CR-V had this problem?
At least ten years

Sometimes things just aren’t what they seem to be.. Try this - when turning key to start - turn it more quickly and forcefully - - inside the electrical part of the ignition switch - the contacts get worn down and turning the key normally doesn’t allow the contacts to make connection - turning it the next time may very well work ok .. IF this suggestion of turning key more quickly and forcefully does indeed improve the situation - recommmend ignition ‘electrical’ switch replacement.
Ignition switch failures are common!
