I was driving my Honda Civic in the rain. All of a sudden battery light came on.

Battery light came on and the wheel stiffened. I had my alternator and serpentine belt replaced two weeks ago. I immediately brought the car back to the mechanic who said the power steering pump needs to be replaced. Car has a little over 60K miles - is this repair necessary?
