I keep seeing timing belt, but I believe my honda civic 1.8 4 cylinder has a chain. How much time does it take to replace and what is the average cost?

FIRST more important question ....WHY????? It does have a chain , which usually does not need replaced under normal conditions until at least 200K miles or more. DEPENDING on the competency/experience of person performing the work , and the quality of parts used (OEM is BEST) , figure 3.5-5 hours of labor (your local labor rate) and IF the repairs are done as recommended by Honda , the car should sit overnight before running , to prevent leaks from the new sealant at case cover.
belt/chain same thing basically, spray some soap water around and check for vacuum leaks then my next step would be ignition module/coil check then tps and check egr by a quick disconnect of wires to see of any changes
Thanks. It has 118k on it. It turns over and sounds like it's free wheeling no compression. Timing chain or something else?
Pull valve cover and inspect chain for slack don sides and see if any excessive valve lash (bent valves) spark plugs fouled?
Thanks. Sounds like a plan.
