What is your question?
During cold start up i intermittently hear a noise much louder than normal When i hear this noise it goes away in about five seconds The car runs perfectly no skip no noise at all I had the car diagnosed at my repair facility and was told that the starter was starting to fail The noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine If it was the starter was failing would I hear this noise which sounds like a diesel engine running? The Accord has 89,000 miles on it and recently had an oil and filter change two weeks ago I checked the oil level and it is where it should be Is this a usual problem or rare problem? I don't want to have the starter replaced if the starter is not the problem Any help would be appreciated
What makes this problem better or worse?
it occurs only at cold start
How long has your 2010 Honda Accord had this problem?
about three weeks

Unfortunately noises are practically impossible to diagnose online - plus it is kinda counterintuitive to disagree with personnel that has the advantage of *hands-on* evaluation.. Can always get second *hands-on* option from a different source. Good luck!
As answered in your other question: This car has a timing belt, and will not make that noise due to timing. How cold is the weather where you are? Honda has a service bulletin (12-018) that refers to the starter motor grinding in cold weather - less than 45 degrees Fahrenheit. If this is the case, then it likely does need a starter motor due to an internal issue. Good luck!
