When I ask what caused the catalytic converter to fail they're telling me that the computer is telling them it failed but they don't know why. What would cause the catalytic converter to fail. I don't want to keep throwing money at this car. I just replaced the engine for $2,100.

Converter contamination from poor running engine is suspect... How many miles on car?
Well i see a trend and of recent had to have my transmission replaced 600.00 for JDM imported and delivered to the shop of my choice ,just bought this Honda Accord 1999 2.3 v tech engine 130,000 miles, yes it drives well but i never would have guessed that a Honda would have this many problems . I can say this has been i big learning curve but this is motivating me to learn and love what my father would so research ,learn as much as you can and that is why i am here today . I am have cat and po0401 and i like what i have read about E G R valve still needing to test it , bought some tools now i am going to do it 'myself ' . Took off the E G R valve still heating up and read the if you move the egr up n down and you hear the valve move its ok ,well i did that ,and yes i going to replace it ,replaced the fan switch Saturday working but till getting hot ,turn on the heater it cools it down .I would love to get it all done . Jreed
About 165,000 and the O2 Sensors had gone out and were replaced just before the engine died. I'm just concerned there will be more repairs after replacing the catalytic converter.
Its unusual that a 'mechanic' couldn't explain why the converter failed... I suspect it was due to the exhaust contaminates from the old engine.. Does it have a P0420 code or what information was gathered from computer to make converter failure suspect?... You should have been given that info!
