Axle/shifting issue not sure

What is your question?

I changed my axle today because my old one snapped into two pieces at the shaft. But, when I got everything together I put the car in first and everything was working fine just shifting in first to reverse for a little bit. Then out of nowhere it stopped working and there’s a bad grinding noise coming from the side I fixed and it still grinds when the car is in neutral as well. I’d appreciate any tips thanks
