Hello, it's terribly hard to say way after the fact with so many variables. First, where did the transmission come from? Is it rebuilt? Honda unit? Another rebuilder? Used? Then, who installed it -- you did it yourself? Did you refer to shop manuals? Did you flush the system to ensure no debris was present? What happened to the previous transmission? Too many questions. This requires a first hand consultation with a skilled technician local to you.
I can't remember if the '1998' has a transmission *detent cable* (kick down cable) or not as all the answers I post are memory from past personal experiences - I don't have an online data service .... In any event - a misadjusted detent cable can certainly cause the symptoms you have .. Also - if not detent cable equipped - askew readings from the throttle position sensor can also cause problems with transmission shift points. I don't know if you have access to a high quality scan tool or not - but that is what is needed.
IF the “D†light is flashing - that indicates a problem exist within the electronics - again requiring hands-on testing//diagnosis. Good luck with it!
Just to confirm, Your car is a v6 correct? If not you might have the wrong trans. BAXA is for the 4cyl. Some coupes and sedans vary as well. Just a thought. otherwise, the diag equipment is the way to go. Autel is about the best I've found for the money. Check all the connectors going to the trans - look for bent pins or connectors not seated all the way in. Also check fuses - cover the basics first.
I have a 1998 V6 Accord. At about 120,000 miles, I began to experience the dreaded 6th gen Accord transmission issues. I am now at 225,000 miles, and I am experiencing the same issues that you are. These are well documented issues within this generating of Accords. I suspect that the transmission that you got is just a normal accord transmission that is further along into the normal failures that occur. I actually pulled a tranny off of an Acura CL from a junk yard, that just happened to have been newly revolt. I got extremely lucky, but then I found out that instead of it being a B7XA like my old tranny, it is a B7WA. Now I have to figure out how to get my ECU to work with that tranny... I might have to do exactly what I'm going to suggest that you might want to do, and that is rebuild your old transmission. It seems to be the cheapest way, and even though I know it's going to be difficult, at least the situation will be fixed. From what I understand, a proper rebuild will eliminate the recurring issues within this generation of Honda Accords. However, just to be safe I'm going to further research the issues. I know that there is an issue with the bearings and second gear. Evidently, Honda used substandard bearings. Anyways, I hope this helped, and if you come up with any more solutions, please let me know. Thanks.
Please excuse my typos. I am unable to see what I have typed until I post.
It’s a junk yard tranny and I did all the work my 2nd time doing a tranny I’m pretty confident that it went well and I know all the possibilities with not going with a reman. But I don’t think it’s bad because sometimes it shifts great it’s possible it could be electrical which isn’t my strong point for sure I did flush the old oil out of the lines in the car after tranny put in ran it for a little bit flushed it 3x all Honda oil
