Is it too difficult for a diy to handle?

If you haven't done a lock cylinder before probably should have a shop handle this as they can be tricky
My brother and just replaced the ignition switch lock cylinder on our 1995 accord. We are comfortable around cars (tune-ups, gaskets replacing parts), but we are far from mechanics. Everything involved in the process, with patience, is fairly simple except one part. The ignition switch is held onto the steering column by 2 bolt/screws, which when installed , the heads are broken off, I guess they do this for security reasons. So you are left with 2 smooth round heads that you have to carve grooves into for a flat-head screw driver. I used a small hammer and a worn-out chisel and was able to carve grooves into the heads which were soft. That fact that your in a cramped space and have to bang for a while makes it time consuming, but we were successful.
