What would be the cost to rebuild a manual 5 speed transmission

I had a week or two of minor shudders then it grinds when I put it in gear...there is no noise in neutral with the clutch pressed in or out...but when I start to nudge it into gear hear a whining noise...I can get it to move and once it is going it seems okay but the shifting is stiff...any suggestions as to the problem....there was no slipping of the clutch..
