when tank is between 3 quarters and full the gauge goes back and forth alot while sitting still at idle

This sounds like a sending unit issue or a wiring issue, or a ground issue. Testing is the only way to figure it all out.
Agreed ... A professional quality scan tool can quickly determine whether the instrument cluster or the tank sending unit is the culprit .. IF this is - or gets to be - a problem that you want fixed (?) .. Highly recommend visiting local auto repair facility.
As a side note: Due to the location of the fuel pump//sending unit 'module' - Fuel gauge fluctuations are a common occurrence with those vehicles - including the Chevy S-10. This is more pronounced when going down grade - or when stopping the vehicle.
