I had to replace steering column with new key now i get no fuel at all

I did and they said that there isnt a transponder in the 01 gmc and they gave me something to try and I will try it today and I hope it works... Ill keep you posted thank you for your response

post findings..there are only a couple of key switches for that year. With automatic transmission, or With manual transmission> Without push button,or With manual transmission> With push button.

it is automatic on the column and I havnt been able to get out to where it is yet to try out anything yet. Plus it the column came out of the same year and same model as my truck. So I am hoping what he told me will work...

OK update on the truck, Doing what the lock shop told me to do worked and now when i goto start it it starts then dies there is gas pressure in the line and the message that comes accross the message center says "Reduced engine power" Took in take off and sprayed starter fluid inside it started and as soon as the starter fluid was done the truck shut off. Im thinking its the fuel injectors but they have been cleaned. I just want my baby to run LIKE I KNOW SHE CAN Any suggestions on what steps i should do next?????

yes the security light blinks when i turn on key didnt even know i had a security system on the truck so How do i fix this. he told me to turn it on wait 10 mins turn off for 30 sec and try and start it. well it tried to start so I figured it was fixxed . he said that if it did nothing then i would have to do it 3 times turn on for 10 mins turn off 30 sec turn on for 10 off 30 sec on 10 off for 30 then start when it tried to start i thought it was good..... So since it has a security system does that mean theres a transponder? and how do i go around security system?

stevieray1 gave you the correct answer to start with! .. Contact a *real locksmith* because you will have to take the OLD key and this NEW key and have a key made that will work ..There is no other option! .. An experienced locksmith can read the chip in the original key - then cut a key that matches the key you're trying to use now but it will have the correct chip in it... A *LOCKSMITH* can explain this to you... IF the locksmith knows of another way to get it running, by all means invite the locksmith over to do so! .. Good luck!

ONE QUESTION > IF the thief had the keys... Why did the column get torn apart like yoy stated??? .. This is the part I can not understand at all .. Exactly WHAT happened to the key to the truck?? .. At this point all I can advise you to do is get a qualified LOCKSMITH to come out and look at the truck .. Good luck to ya!

I had the key when it got taken 1 month after it was taken I got it back with the column ripped apart at that time i still had the key since then I have misplaced it and replaced the column so figured i didnt need so Not sure where it is. GMC Told me that for my vin number there is no transponder in it that I have to take it to a gmc authorized dealer/shop and have them figure it out. So I dont know what to do now. the closest shop is 59 miles away and I cant drive it there and the tow bill would kill me so not sure what I will be doing with it....
