What is your question?
is there a way to read engine codes on a 98 gmc safari van? I know that I can read the codes on my ford aerostar by turning off and on twice, then leaving the key on and watch the engine light blink, (like 3 blinks, then a pause, then the last number. then comes (I think) a 55 code meaning the end of the code) is there a way to do something like this on a 98 gmc safari. rear wheel drive with a 4.3 dual air till I can afford a OBIII code reader.

All vehicles since '96 are OBDII diagnostics. You need a scanner to read codes on your vehicle. I believe AutoZone will scan your car for free, try that. For a GM specialist, here's a directory link for you: http://repairpal.com/gmc-repair-in-las-vegas-nevada
I WAS AFRAID OF THAT . I HAVE SEEN THEM, SELLING FOR ANYWHERE FROM $69 TO $499 DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU WANT IT TO DO. JUST READ, RESET THE SERVICE LIGHT . ETC. BUT SINCE I HAD MY BATTERY IN MY FORD AEROSTAR AND THE HOSPITAL SET ME BACK PLUS WITH XMAS IN ALL A OBDII OR OBDIII IS NOT IN MY CARDS FOR NOW, BUT THAT FIR ANSWERING ANYWAY. AND HAVE A VERY GOOD XMAS.
