I HAVE A 2001 GMC JIMMY IT IS BURNING REALLY RICH AND ONLY GETS AROUND 6 TO 8 MILES TO A GALLON. AND IT RUNS AND IDLES ROUGH UNTIL YOU HIT ABOUT 3000 RPMS. I BROUGHT IT TO MY DADS LAST WEEKEND AND WE LOOKED AT IT, WE NOTICED THE FUEL PUMP WILL TURN ON AND THEN TURN OFF LIKE NORMALLY WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY TO START POSITION, BUT AS SOON AS YOU START IT, IT CONTINUALLY RUNS. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED...IM THINKING POSSIBLY FUEL PUMP RELAY?

Google > fuel spider .. It's under the intake plenum.. Common problem on the 4.3L .. Can be tested to confirm!
it's suppose to do that.when you first turn key to run,not start, the fuel pump primes the lines for 2 seconds, then shuts off.when you start it the fuel pump comes back on and runs untill you cut the vehicle off again.that is the only way to get fuel.the pump, pumps fuel.
Thankyou for that information! I didn't relize it ran continuously. I assumed it only game on when it needed more fuel. So now what else could be the issue? It is burning really rich and idles rough up until 3000 rpms. I've replaced plugs, wires, distributor, cap, rotor, fuel pump fuel lines 02 sensors. When I put my hand while it's idling over the tailpipe a puff of seriously black exaust comes out. Is it possible it's the injectors? Somehow it's dumping to much fuel.
is the check engine light on now?have you checked for vacuum leaks, engine area?
I have checked for vaccine leaks...I get find any...I put my OBD2 on the check engine light it throws number 2 misfire...I don't remember exact code
