what do you mean by loosing amps? what is the battery voltage testing with a volt meter at the battery terminals with the engine running? should be around 13-15 volts DC,this is the alternator output voltage.. if it's like 10 or 12 VDC,suspect the new alternator is BAD.some alternators on certain vehicles are computer controlled, yours may be on this year, make, and model,if so I suggest taking it to a qualified mechanic for testing.
sounds like it needs a more thorough diagnosis. possibly a wiring issue is involved or there is a voltage drop over the positive or negative cables. if you would like for us to check it out we would be more than happy to. give us a call. 248-888-9406. ask for bill or jason
i had a truck that did about the same thing. i could not find the problem, but i didn't go to deep on things because the truck was totaled but still driveable and i had it sold as is and they new about the problem.he took it to a Generator shop here in town..they found it,but took em a while..it was a short in the radio????????????????????????????????????
this is the 2nd alternator installed in 2weeks. my mechanic hooked up something to the car two days ago, and declared the alternator he put in 10 days ago was no good, so he replaced yesterday. but my "battery gauge" falls, the lights dim, and car almost stalls when i come to red lights on my way to work today. what next?
