RepairPal cannot give you shop manual instructions, but in general, you remove the front floor console cover to access the solenoid. "3 hours" seems steep; there is no published labor time for this repair in labor guides (other than GM factory guides for warranty purposes). All that said -- it is more likely for the shift interlock to be contaminated with liquid or debris rather than having failed. A good exploratory inspection may be best first.
