Car has had no problems. Driving down the road, the car suddenly acted like it was put into neutral. There were no clunks, but a slight whine that sounded like a low power steering pump was evident. Fluid is full, not burned. Car has 103,000 miles. Shift cable moves, car won't go into gear, and the whine is gone. Thanks, Shrinks

03 Taurus had a pump problem, the needle bearing that supports the pump was made smaller and goes out breaking the pump. You drop all pressure and nothing works. if you have it fixed, have them install the heavy built bearing in it. sorry for your loss. It happened to me. 1700.00
This sounds like your transmission is going out on you. I hope I'm wrong, but you should get a shop to check it out!
This same problem just happened to my taurus did u figure out what was wrong?
Sorry to say, I had the tranny rebuilt.
it's a 1990 camry automatic trans, the car will stay in gear for about three block shifting good and starts loosing powert but if you kill the engine and restart it, it will shift good for about the same distance
