Replace the serpentine belt idler pulley and tensioner pulley, have a competent mechanic check the alignment of the accessory pulleys. All should be well after those two parts are replaced.

As your air-cond compressor is wearing out, the compressor resists rotation which stresses the serpantine belt causing it to break. This rotation causes HEAT. The heat causes the air-cnditioner to explode which will damage the engine. Consider the broken belt as a WARNING. With the belt off, try to rotate the compressor with your hand. If it does not rotate freely, you need to replace the air-conditioner compressor before you ruin another belt.
