What is your question?
I have read a few articles/forums about this issue, with now definite answers, just suggestions. While driving my engine will just shut off. It's as if I turned it off, but without turning the key. Radio and everything is still on and fine, and the check engine light comes on. When I get it started again, the check engine light is gone. There is no signal that it will happen (Rough idle, stalling, etc) just shuts off. Also all the variables are different. It's done it while giving some gas, slowing to a stop, coasting, and fully stopped. Done it at all fuel levels, and is not overheating. Some days it doesn't do it at all, and just yesterday 4 times in 10 minutes. I took it to a mechanic immediately, and he was baffled, and we let it idle for 2 hours, and he drove it for an hour without any issue. I've recently changed the fuel filter (Helped for a week) and just changed the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor as I saw that it fixed the issue for someone. However, I've also seen that someone else fixed the issue by replacing their IAC and EGR. I want to know the issue, so I can fix it properly instead of just swapping out parts hoping it's fixed.
Sometimes right away, sometimes I try 4 times (Once every 30 seconds).
Because the conditions for the symptom vary so much, there are many different components that can cause that same symptom. It can be anything from a fuel pump to an ignition module or computer or wiring harness. To be definitive on what is causing that issue, the best thing to do is to wait until it is in its failed state (crank no start) permanently. If you are concerned about the reliability side of the vehicle (which I can see that you would be based on the irregularity of the symptom), I would recommend taking the vehicle to a repair shop and they will presumably install test equipment (fuel pressure gauge etc) and have them periodically drive the vehicle to wait for it to go into the failed state. Although this will cost some diagnostic time, it will probably be far less than to throw parts at the vehicle. Until it is in its failed stated, any parts that are installed are truly a guess. Hopefully that helps.
It is helpful, thank-you. I have some tests I was told to try given common issues with this model engine. So I shall have tests done before putting more money into it. On the plus side, what I have done should be done far more often than the previous owner did.
