What is your question?
3.0 ranger sport K&n filter and dual stailess exhaust. Always ran strong. Left store felt vibration thought it was a tire till i got to the red light. Was tapping real loud top end and motor shaking viontly. Kept putting in neautral to keep running till light turned green got to sheets gas and parked it. Oil is clean. Oil pump? Or timeing chain? Had it towed to my mech. What do you think it is??
What makes this problem better or worse?
Just all a sudden happend driving
How long has your 2007 Ford Ranger had this problem?
Just happend

IF this occurred directly following any air filter manipulation - possibly foreign object pulled into engine through intake and is imbedded into a piston. Oil pump failure would have been indicated in dash cluster - oil gauge or light. Timing chains aren't problematic. Good luck!
Thanks. But i used the original stock box and installed the K&N sqaure type filter. Same as the stock one. And its been about a year sine i installed. Its just weird motor alwaYs ran strong never any problems at all. Then all a sudden it started shaking then i heard the push rods or lifters loud almost sounded like a knock in the sound also. Still waiting on mechanic to call me..smh
I suppose it could be a restricted oil pick up screen in oil pan - I also suppose the mechanic will test actual oil pressure using a manual test gauge. As a rule of thumb the 3.0L is pretty reliable and don’t give this kind of problem - however any-thing is possible. Good luck with it!
Hey pushrod. Just to give you an update on my 3.0 Ranger. Mechanic told me 0 compression on # 6 cylinder. Ill know more today or monday. Must have broke a valve dropped it on the piston. He said he was gonna pull the head. So ill ask you if it didnt tear the cylinder wall or the piston up. 3 things to ask.. cost to rebuild heads? Or a rebuild on motor? Or just find another motor.? I always worked on 4 barrel motors. But now ? No way i could do it. What would you do if these were your options. Thanks!
When the valve cover is removed the problem should be obvious if there is a valve problem.. Now - if the ‘intake valve’ ROCKER ARM has broken or has become dislodged - there will be no compression as no air is entering the cylinder to compress.. Only after disassembly and inspection can this be evaluated.. Let me know the outcome and I can advise further - if needed.
The mechanic should definitely perform a cylinder leak down test before any other work is attempted so the problem can be positively identified!
Well he sent me pics today. Valve cover off. I seen a broken valve spring and rocker. The pistons were all black and carbon gummed up looking didnt see any damage. I guess he sent me what appears to be the top center top of motor where intake is off. I guess where the cam is located. Cant tell if theres damage there or not. Ill know more tomorro. Ughhh..noway to send you the 3 pictures to you. I dont think... thanks pushrod
No - unfortunately this site doesn’t allow images .. As long as there’s no piston - this shouldn’t be all that bad.. Good luck!
Thanks hope to talk again. Thanks!
(As long as there’s piston ‘Damage’ that is) Yeah - let us know the outcome..
