1995 Ford Ranger Check Engine Light and Scanner port

What is your question?

The check engine light came on. There is a diagnostic port under the dashboard near the driver's door. My question is this a OBD II port or is it a OBD port. The port is 16 pins but it appears only 6 are in use. What scanner should be used on this vehicle?

some 95 vehicles have the obd II port and will function but will give codes in obd I format. i suggest a shop that has the correct scanner. it will not and should not be free. Roy
