What is your question?
My 91 Ford ranger custom has a 3.0 in it but it always has ran for a while then shut off and not start back til something would cool off I replace the small coil pack and it was not it but I noticed that the distributor was wired up as a 2.9 so I looked up the wire pattern for the cap and I rewired it back to a 3.0 and then got it on a compression stroke and frist cylinder top dead center well at least got the 0 on the harmonic balancer on top and it look like it was in time but what if it set for a 2.9 also and iis making it die and have no power but after I rewired it I set shaft pointing to number one and she fired up And ran smooth for once but when u put it in drive it goes puff puff puff and dies and has no power if u keep taping the gas fast and don't stop u can keep it running if ustop taping the gas it will die it wouldn't even idol before I rewired it unless u taping the gas after I rewired it it got better but did not fix.could it be that the timing set to a 2.9
What makes this problem better or worse?
After I rewired the distributor
How long has your 1991 Ford Ranger had this problem?

Firing order (plug wire placement) for the 2.9 and the 3.0 distributors are identical .. You probably should be concentrating of fuel delivery instead. Highly recommend seeking *hands-on* assistance from auto repair savvy personnel..
