My battery light on my 2006 Ford Mustang came on a while ago, so I replaced the battery. It now still comes on every and now and then. Just randomly, I'll be driving and it'll come on and then a minute later go off. I got the alternator tested at Autozone and they said it was good. I also tested it myself, even pulling over on the side of road to test it with a voltmeter immediately when the battery light was on. The alternator was charging at 14.48 volts when the car was idling, and the resting battery when car was off was 12.71. Why is the light coming on?

I know you said you replaced the battery, but I've seen some new off the batteries right off the rack that may test badly. This may not apply to you when your battery light comes on, but most of the time it's the alternator going bad, even when the readings are good. First, I'd check all connections and make sure they are clean and free of corrosion, while also being tight -- including the grounds. Then I'd take it back to Autozone and let them check the alternator and the battery. They'll put a load test on it to get all the info on them, bad or good.
I own an 08 with the same problem. Its an issue for our cars. After a lot of searching i finally came across something called a special service bulliton from ford that describes our problem and says its caused by loose pins on the alternator plug and the repair is a new pigtail. I have yet to do it because of time, but this is what ford says is the problem. I hope this helps and good luck
been a little over 2 weeks, have not seen a reply back.maybe they got it fixed!
SSM 12055 - 2009-2013 Multiple Vehicle Lines - Battery Light Flickers - Stays On - Low Charging Some 2009-2013 Multiple vehicle lines may exhibit low charging system voltage, flickering battery indicator lamp, or battery indicator lamp on. This may be caused by engine vibration or improper probing of the 3 pin wiring harness connector at the generator. These conditions can cause a loose or spread terminal on theharness side of the connection. Service tip using the purple male flex probe from Rotunda Flex Probe Kit (NUD105-R025D), or a male terminal from box 3, drawer C-16 of the wire terminal repair kit. If there is no drag felt when pulling the flex probe/terminal from the harness connector terminal, the connector can be repaired with wiring pigtail kit WPT-118 (14S411), refer toWiring Diagram section 5 for wiring repair procedures. Here is the special service message, I know it says 2009 - 2013 but its exactly what our cars do
Thanks for the info guys. My Stang has been doing this for a bit and I knew the charging system was ok but it makes you a little leary when that light comes on and your on a long road trip. I am going to check all my connections and grounds.
thanks. Might take it by tonight or something. There is a little corrosion on one connection. Might just buy new cables
may not need new cables if only corroded on the terminals or battery just clean it off,use a metal brush and make everything shine like new.
Alright cool. I'll do that. Thanks!

Well that didn't work either. Light still coming on
have you checked all connections, including grounds?i know grounds don't sound like much, but grounds are very inportant.they must be clean, tight, and, free of any crap on the ends and clean where they hook up!did you take it and have it checked anywhere yet?make sure all connections are tight, battery, alt, grounds.
