What is your question?
When key is put it it will ding but when key is turned there’s nothing. Battery has been checked and is good. When key is taken out it makes a weird clicking sound then stops. 2004 Gt 40th anniversary model with 64000 original miles on it. Have had it for 3 months and it’s run fine up to this point
What makes this problem better or worse?
Sometimes it will start. No pattern
How long has your 2004 Ford Mustang had this problem?
A couple weeks
It makes a difference! ... We can’t offer any useful assistance without more details. Can post a list of possibilities - however based on the current information they will not likely be beneficial. We’ll need transmission type and just for good measure engine size.. *Disregarding assumed battery condition* - when this problem occurs - has jump starting been attempted ? Good luck!
Battery is good. 4.6 GT. Tried jumping it. Nothing happened. It’s happen twice. Was wondering if possible ground problem. Car sat about 2 years in a garage before I bought it. I haven’t ruled out a wire issue.
Down at the starter solenoid there is a smaller wire - that wire must have battery power when key is turned to START - when this problem occurs - have a helper hold key to start position while you TEST for battery voltage on that small wire at the starter solenoid.. A 12 volt test light is sufficient.. Post test results here. NOW > IF you are not comfortable attempting this test - seek *hands-on* assistance from qualified personnel. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. Will check on this and see if it is the problem.
TEST RSULTS 🔽 BATTERY VOLTAGE PRESENT ↔️ REPLACE STARTER. 🔧 NO BATTERY VOLTAGE PRESENT ↔️ REPLY HERE. 💡
Turns out the previous owner installed an aftermarket remote start that fried the starter. New starter installed (without remote start) cranking right up with no problem.
Kinda figured failed starter... Never cared for remote start > old school - olds cool.
Me either. Thanks for your help.
