What is your question?
2013 Ford Fusion Titanium. Car wouldn't start this morning. Jumped it, then it showed an illuminated wrench on console which my manual says is for "Powertrain Fault - Illuminates when a powertrain or an AWD fault has been detected. Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible." I drove about 4 miles to give the battery juice. Parked it and turned off. Tried to start again immediately but won't start. There are no leaks or odd noises. I had a brand new battery put in 4 months ago. Am I screwed?
How long has your 2013 Ford Fusion had this problem?
Since this morning

Possibly failed alternator or alternator drive system - especially if equipped with electronic power steering (I can explain if needed) .. Inspect serpentine drive belt - have alternator voltage output tested.
Thank you. I know next to nothing about cars, so I'm very worried. I had to jump start again this morning. When taking the freeway exit, I noticed the gears not shifting right - they were too high when my speed was low and kind of flickering (don't know the proper term) up and down while at lower speeds (20-30mph). The wrench stopped showing last night, but appeared again this morning. After jumping a second time the wrench is gone. I'll make an appointment with my local Ford tomorrow. Just feeling very anxious about this and I really appreciate any ideas. Thanks for your help. Are the problems you mentioned expensive fixes?
My local Ford service center is booked until next week. I took the car to O'Reillys after work and they tested the battery. Their machine shows a bad alternator. Would that cause the random drops/rises in RPM and hard-felt shifting?
Very possible - anytime battery power is excessively low or lost - the computer forgets some ‘adaptive strategies’ or (KAM) Keep Alive Memory .. That will also cause the powertrain fault (wrench) light to turn on .. I feel sure that repairing the alternator problem will also take care of the other concerns.
This repair doesn’t have to be performed by the dealer - any full service auto repair facility should be well equipped to take care of it.
Thanks for the heads up. Don't think my car is included in this recall.
