Ahhh,the 3 valve 5.4 engine. #1- have the plugs been replaced? if not DO IT! and be careful or have someone do it because they WILL break if not done correctly! can't stress this enough!!! The way that I can tell when they need plugs is I take them out at highway speed and nail it/full throttle,it will pop pop pop out the intake and hesitate/misfire and feels just like you're running out of fuel. These engines will and can throw you for a loop when trying to diagnose,seen another tech replace the entire fuel system on one to no conclusion other than SPARK PLUGS,boom fixed.
