Anything I should look for specifically? First time I've done it completely alone. Replace battery cables? Is that difficult and which are the best to look for for top battery posts? Can I get it all at Menards? There is spark to the solenoid and spark in the battery but after leaving it run for 30 minutes, it again died. Solenoid does seem to be loose from wall somewhat? I only see one screw to the wall - shouldn't there be 2? A friend is stopping over to help as my hands aren't very strong anymore. Need new ends also - is it best to just buy new cables and what gauge as the red - if I remember right - seems thicker? I should have taken a pic - maybe will tomorrow. Just thinking maybe someone could give me some ideas on exact tools as well also? 1995 Ford F150 4x4 V8 engine 351, original, 4x4, ordered it in 1994 and have put all of the 138,000 miles on it. Served me well except for MN rust and a couple of dents. Thank you. I was hoping to find a youtube video of my exact model but don't seem to find one. Just to re-acquaint myself. Husband deceased and doing it on my own as it is stuck in my apartment complex and just got out of hospital with pnuemonia and severe dehydration. Fun Fun week. haha
if you are changing the battery cables, take several pictures of where they go,so you can hook them back the same way.yes there should be 2 screws holding the starter solenoid to the firewall.unhook the cables from the battery first, negative first, then positive last, before removing them from anywhere else.very few tools will be needed.maybe a 1/2&9/16 wrench?8mm and 10mm socket or wrench, pliers or channel locks?small socket or wrench, maybe 1/4 or 5/16 if removing or replacing screw for solenoid on firewall.i'm pretty sure you can get the cables with the ends already on them at NAPA.take the cables with you to match them up.the positive i think is #4 gauge wire.go to NAPA,they should be able to fix you right up.clean all the connections before hooking cables back up,hook cables to where they go before hooking up the battery,HOOK BATTERY UP LAST.hook up positive cable first, then negative last.make sure all connections are tight and clean.truck not been driven much, average of 6900 miles a year, very good!!
