Starter fins this cold morning. Let it warm for 5 Min. Revved engine fine. As soon as I put truck in gear, it died. Tried to restart, cranks but won't fire. Let it sit for two hrs. started right up. Same result. Let it sit for another hour and 1/2, started. This time I revved the engine enough to keep running as I drove off. Drove two blocks, stopped and put in neutral. Ideled ok. Tried to drive off again. Died and won't restart. Sitting again. Help?

Try it with gas pedal at half, then full throttle to see if it helps.
Wow , no codes , idk , just dies , damn somethings cutting out..i was going to say spark problem...it could be anything..
Once it is running, I can over-rev the engine and drop it in gear and it will run. As soon as I slow down or stop it either dies instantly or as soon as I try to drive again without over-reving again. Once it dies, it will not start for another period of waiting. Thanks for trying to help. I will try replacing the engine control diode and the engine control relay tomorrow and see if that helps.
I got the same truck , u think its electrical, lemme know how u make out...
A truck that starts and idles and travels a short distance and fails to rev up or Will start with no rev , the answer to your problem is that your problems is that you have a weak " OIL PUMP " as oil pump cannot pump oil to Hydraulics
Watta u thinking bad tps sensor????
Pushrod, Have tried just slight throttle pressure, half throttle, fully depressed and pumping in frustration. No go. Will crank forever with no attempt at firing. Late last night It did start after only 35 minutes waiting time but I did have to feather the pedal slightly to get it to run. Stevies, what and where is the tps sensor? Thanks guys. ET Will also replace the in line fuel filter this morning.
Really need to test fuel pressure and ignition spark while its not starting!.. TPS= Throttle Position Sensor... Can read out of range and trigger clear flood, this stops injector pulse..but depressing gas usually will override it... Got to do some testing!!
Thanks.. will work on both. Any input on what might go bad in electrical because of poor procedure while jumping the battery of another vehicle? I did jumper another after the tune up and just before this trouble began, I connected positive jumper to positive first an then the negative to the negative battery terminal before the other driver connected to his dead battery. I read in the owner's manual later that the negative jumper should be connected to a ground point, not to the negative terminal,
As long as the polarity wasnt reversed, no problem!
Thanks for the rapid reply Pushrod. Today I ordered a code reader for the old girl. Will be here this thursday. Meantime, tomorrow, I will check fuel pressure both prior to start and also after the engine dies before I try to restart. Will also check spark per your suggestion. I checked , the fuel filter had been replaced during the "tune up".
Now you know your truck is OBD1 so a code reader for the newer OBD II isn't going to work..? Just saying..
Thanks. Found that out today. The Girl @ the counter sold me the OBD2, assuring me that the one she sold me would work on all year models. Got it home and went to the Reader's web site and found out it would not. Therefore, this afternoon, I ordered the OBD1 for Fords. Two days to get the right one here. Will return the obd2. 1/24/15 Finally have some input from the code reader. codes 21,63,81,82,85 and 84 in that order. Check engine light stays on, abs light also. ???
I have same truck same prob what was the fix for it issue. Please I'm reLly ready to drive my truck
Coolant temperature sensor .... Throttle position sensor codes are present for the first posted vehicle in question !! Those two can cause these problems!!
Thanks for the reply in going to go and pull my codes and try and follow the manuals test for those sensors
Thanks for the reply glad to know someone's out there I'm going to go and pull those codes and try to follow the manuals procedure for testing those sensors
The reason I didn't follow up is I don't get any notice unless a 'reply' icon (like the one here) is available at the time of posting!!.. Keep that in mind!
