Thanks, How to check alternator!can it go bad on its own or someone or something damages it ?

you can check it if you have a volt meter.put the volt meter on DC volts.check the battery voltage with engine off,should be around 12.6 volts.then start the engine,check battery voltage again,should be 13.5-14.5 volts.most of the time when they go bad,it's the voltage regulator that fails,built into alternator.if no volt meter,take it to Autozone,Advance,Oreilly's,they will check it for free!the battery must have a full charge on it to check the alternator while mounted on the vehicle.
