they tell me the whole engine has to be removed to get to it.

My husband has pulled our motor out in order to get a local technician to do this same repair. Did they give you any feedback when you had this done if they had any issues while repairing? My husband had to get a friend to help remove a bolt on the back side of the motor. His hand is too big to fit back behind there.
I dont know what a SOHC engine is? But is this a typical price quote for that work?
Sorry, that is the short term for Single Overhead Camshaft as opposed to a Pushrod engine... That is what makes this job so labor intensive as it has a lot more parts to contend with... I looked at the Estimator at the top of this page and it's no help really so I suggest calling a few local shops to get their price... I'm in VA so it's not going to be the same price and I cannot inspect the vehicle... You'll need to be able to tell the shop what engine it has so it's a good idea to have the vehicle ID number handy.. 10th digit is the engine code.
thank you
Sure... Good luck with it!
