I was adding water to the coolant reservoir and I think ice may have built up inside engine block. there is a knocking inside the engine block now whenever you press on the accelerator and this morning now the engine doesn't crank over.

The ice will remove itself!!... If there was NO ANTIFREEZE added to the cooling system... Since it has warmed up outside today... Do you see any water running out of the possibility FROZEN & BUSTED engine block? Engine block possibly cracked internally resulting in hydro-lock condition... Remove spark plugs and try to crank... IF ice was *frozen solid* inside the engine block.. You can bet the engine is now destroyed!.. Good luck.
