Bought the ford explorer 2001 used , runs fine , after a few days got in car turned key , nothing happened . Jumped across the solenoid and it starts and runs fine . Still can't start it with the key.

pull the small wire off the solenoid/starter relay,under the hood..get a helper and a volt meter.have the helper turn the key to the crank/start position while you check for signal/voltage on that small wire. if you have signal/voltage,then the solenoid/starter relay is bad,replace it,Part Number: F492>at the ZONE>$19.99 plus tax.if you get nothing on that small wire,then suspect the ignition switch is bad(electrical part on bottom of column).Part Number LS615, $17.99 plus tax...
