1998 Ford Explorer...tried shifting in reverse, heard a 'clunk" then no reverse.

So...drove it home...ran fine...check tranny fluid...looked great...nice and clear with no leakage....then....the very next day I suddenly lose ALL my tranny fluid...left a trail down main street.... There have been no signs of a bad tranny...no grinding..no slipping....the tranny has bee running flawlessly...the fluid is clean...(or was, until it dumped all over the road)....question...could I have just lost some linkage and a plug somewhere?....funny I should have two tranny symptoms 24 hours apart from each other.

How long has your 1998 Ford Explorer had this problem?

24 hours...came on fast...lost reverse one day, lost fluid less than 24 hours later
