What can cause fuel mileage to be around 10-13 mpg.

Thanks for your reply but to answer your question the Check Engine light is not on. But I did take it and get it scanned and the only thing is shows is a code for the Shift A solenoid the code was P0750. Do you know what the fuel mileage should be for a Ford 5.0 v8 engine??? I will tell you this though every time I get out of the vehicle I do smell a rich mixture coming from the engine compartment. I have the Explorer XLT AWD one. I also took it the ford dealership for a oil change and the only thing they told me is that it needs new top and bottom ball joints and rear shocks. that's it.

i wpu;d think you should get like 15 mpg at least.if you have shift solenoid issues that could cause mpg issues

ok thanks for the info , is there any way to make the fuel mileage any better though? like maybe get it up to say 17-19 mpg's??? do you also have any idea what it should cost to replace the shift solenoid?? or an average?? again thank you very much....!!
