Professional scan test will be required .. Pro quality scanner will easily read obd1 and offers MUCH more information.
OBD I on this vehicle will also flash codes through the check engine light by jumping the proper 2 pins on the diagnostic pigtail. I feel certain if you Google this information you'll find the way to do this. It will flash "KOEO" (Key On Engine Off) codes first, then "KOEC" (memory codes), then "KOER" Running codes -- but you also need to follow the proper code pulling routine, such as hitting "wide open throttle" at the right time. With proper instruction, you can at least get the codes, but it takes some experience and know-how. There are many resources online or in your neighborhood to help, but you could also invest in a tool that can handle it or see a local technician near you.
