is it the 91 explorer or the 04 ranger?if the ranger,no spare key?if the ranger, is/was the key a transponder key or not?

Yes 2004 ranger yes responder key no spare
you must have it towed to dealer for new key switch/keys,and then it will need scan tool with anti-theft security access for installation before it will start and run again.
